Memorial University Medical Center was named a Blue Distinction Center for spine surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield. We received UnitedHealth Premium surgical spine specialty center designation from UnitedHealthcare. We were named a Center of Excellence for spinal fusion by Cigna Healthcare. And, we received a 5-star rating from HealthGrades for spinal fusion.
Joint Replacement Surgery Recognition
Memorial University Medical Center was named a Blue Distinction Center for knee and hip replacement by Blue Cross Blue Shield. We were also named a Center of Excellence for knee and hip replacement by Cigna Healthcare.
American Stroke Association Award
Our stroke treatment program has the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Silver Performance Achievement Award three times in a row for implementing high standards of stroke care.
Most Wired Hospital
For 11 years in a row, Memorial University Medical Center has been named one of the nation's Most Wired hospitals. The annual list, published in Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, recognizes hospitals for their use of technology to improve patient care.
Blue Distinction
Memorial University Medical Center was recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery in 2008 and 2009. Blue Distinction is awarded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shied Association of Georgia and identifies quality providers nationwide. In addition, the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute was named a Blue Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers in 2008 and 2009.
Consumer Choice Award
Memorial University Medical Center won the National Research Corporation 2008/2009 Consumer Choice Award for the Savannah region. The award is based on surveys of households throughout the market. The list of Consumer Choice hospitals is published in Modern Healthcare magazine.
Department of Defense Recognition
The Georgia Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an agency of the Department of Defense, honored Memorial with an “Above and Beyond” award for extraordinary support of employees who serve in the Georgia National Guard and Reserve. We received the award in 2008.
Center of Excellence
Memorial Health Bariatrics was named a Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Premium Cardiac Specialty Center
Memorial University Medical Center received the UnitedHealth Premium Cardiac Specialty Center designation for quality care. UnitedHealthcare developed the UnitedHealth Premium Specialty Center designation to give its members information about and access to cardiac hospitals that meet rigorous quality standards. The designation is based on proficiencies submitted to UnitedHealthcare and is designed to help members make informed decisions when they need cardiac care.

University Medical Center earned Accreditation with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
The breast care services at the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center are accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program of the American College of Surgeons.
The Rehabilitation Institute at Memorial University Medical Center earned accreditation from CARF, International for inpatient rehabilitation (children, adolescents, and adults), its brain injury program (adults), and its stroke specialty program (adults).

Our Breast Imaging
Center's mammography services are accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the FDA. We are also designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
Our laboratory department and point-of-care services are accredited by the
College of American Pathologists.
Our sleep laboratory is certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Our rapid response stroke team and community education
program has been designated a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint
Commission. This is considered the Gold Seal of Approval for stroke
care.
