
President and Chief Executive Officer
Phillip S. Schaengold, J.D., MBA, FACHE, has been president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Memorial Health since June 2009. He has more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience, primarily at academic medical centers and safety-net hospitals. Schaengold has a strong understanding of teaching hospital operations in both the not-for-profit and investor-owned environment.
Before joining Memorial, Schaengold was the CEO of University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. He also served as senior vice president for hospital affairs at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University. Schaengold’s other experience includes serving as corporate vice president of operations and CEO at Tenet Pennsylvania, a network of six hospitals in Philadelphia; serving as corporate vice president of operations and CEO of Tenet St. Louis; and serving as CEO and managing director of a partnership between Universal Health Services and George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Schaengold has both a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Cincinnati. He also holds a Juris Doctor from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University. Schaengold is also a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Bar Association.
