ICU & Critical Care

  • Memorial University Medical Center’s critical care/intensive care units are staffed by highly trained nurses and physicians who provide around-the-clock care. We proudly offer patient and family centered care. This specialized model of care encourages you to be part of the team caring for your loved one. Watch a video about patient and family centered care.

    Family Assistance

When a patient is admitted to the critical care units, we ask the patient or family member to identify one or two representatives who will be the patient’s support person(s) to receive information and updates about the patient's condition. Each patient is assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to ensure privacy and to protect the patient and his or her information.

The support person(s) will be issued a PIN number. We ask the support person(s) to communicate updates to family and friends and make decisions and act on behalf of the patient. We ask that no more than two visitors be in the patient's room at once time. All guests must wear a visitor badge when in the patient's room. Any time that you need information or assistance, please contact one of our family care partners. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling:

    Intensive care units: 912-350-3272
    Intermediate care units: 912-350-3273

    Quiet Times

    2 to 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight

During these times, we encourage rest and quiet for all patients on the unit.

    Patient Assessment Times

    6:30 to 8 a.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.

During these times, all guests except the support person(s) will be asked to leave the room and go to the waiting area. Our team will visit and assess the patients, perform a safety check, create the plan of care for the shift, and verify all doctors and medication orders for the shift.
