Memorial Health Outpatient Rehab offers the region's only on-the-road driving evaluation and training program. “Driving Visions” is designed to give physicians the information they need to make decisions concerning their patient's driving status. Training is also provided to help individuals acquire or regain the skills necessary to drive independently after a disabling injury or illness, including brain or spinal cord injury, arthritis, amputation, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or visual impairments.
The driving program first assesses pre-driving skills such as strength, vision, perception, reaction time, range of motion, and endurance. Then, the person is evaluated behind the wheel of Outpatient Rehab’s specially outfitted vehicle. Performance on the road is the most accurate indicator of true ability and safety. All evaluation and instruction is done by an occupational therapist licensed as a Georgia driving instructor.
