Wessinger Named Senior Associate Dean for Mercer University Savannah Programs

(October 9, 2003) - William N. Wessinger, M.D., senior vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer at Memorial Health, has accepted an appointment by Mercer University School of Medicine as senior associate dean for Savannah programs. Wessinger will also hold an appointment as professor of surgery. An orthopedic surgeon, Wessinger joined Memorial Health in 1981, and has served as both chief of staff and vice president of medical affairs. Wessinger grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and graduated from The Citadel in 1969. He earned his medical degree in 1973 from the Medical University of South Carolina. Wessinger completed his residency and fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Wessinger became senior vice president for medical and academic affairs in 1999 when the hospital was officially designated the Savannah Campus of Mercer University School of Medicine. Memorial Health University Medical Center is southeast Georgia's only teaching and research hospital.
