(July 22, 2008) – Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) in Savannah, Georgia, has been named one of the nation’s Most Wired hospitals for the ninth consecutive year. The results were announced in the July 2008 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association. The annual survey measures the nation’s hospitals on their use of Internet technologies for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes, and workforce issues.
“Earning this designation year after year is proof of our commitment to using the latest technology to provide world-class care and a safe environment for our patients,” said Patty Lavely, vice president and chief information officer at MUMC.
Most Wired hospitals show better outcomes in patient satisfaction, risk-adjusted mortality rates, and other key quality measures through the use of information technology (I.T.), according to a new analysis.
Hospitals & Health Networks conducted the survey in cooperation with the McKesson Corporation, Accenture, and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
“Health I.T. has shown incredible promise in helping us improve the quality and safety of the care hospitals deliver every day,” says Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. “The results of the Most Wired survey confirm that today’s patient also understands the benefits of I.T. in improving care and improving the overall hospital experience.”
