10th Annual Waiting on a Cure Event Coming November 18

(November 2, 2011) - The fight against cancer will take center stage at the 10th Annual Waiting on a Cure luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 18, at the Hilton Savannah DeSoto, located at15 East Liberty Street. This year's luncheon theme is "It's a Ten."

Waiting on a Cure is a unique fundraiser that benefits the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute (ACI) at Memorial University Medical Center. Table hosts purchase a table for 10 and invite nine of their friends to enjoy lunch with them. The table hosts dress in costumes based on the theme and wait on their guests throughout the meal. This year, hosts will dress as any character representing a past theme, including musicians, legends, celebrities, Broadway stars, politicians, the infamous and the famous, and more. The guests then tip their host at the end of the meal, and all proceeds benefit the ACI.

The total amount raised by Waiting on a Cure will surpass the $1 million mark with this year's event. Proceeds support cancer research and cancer care and are used to purchase new equipment, enhance patient programs, and expand cancer research inSavannah.

"This is a fun event for an excellent cause. Every dollar raised helps to advance cancer care right here inSavannah. And, the money that people tip their host is 100 percent tax-deductible," said Toby Hollenberg, event co-chair.

The honored patient of the 2011 luncheon is Jimmy Burnsed of Richmond Hill, a community leader, cancer survivor, and devoted family man. Burnsed is the chairman of Bryan Bank and Trust. He also serves as chairman of the Bryan County Board of Commissioners, chairman of the Board of Directors for Savannah Technical College, and on the Bryan County Board of Health.
