(September 18, 2013) –The One Hundred, a nonprofit organization that supports The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC), presented a check for $130,000 to purchase equipment at The Children’s Hospital.
“One of the items we will purchase is a new neonatal transport incubator. It will be used to safely transport very sick or premature infants from outlying areas to The Children’s Hospital at Memorial,” said Bradley Buckler, M.D., co-director of nurseries and medical director of neonatal transport services at MUMC.
The Children’s Hospital at MUMC houses the only Level III neonatal intensive care nursery in the region. It is the only facility in southeast Georgia equipped to treat the most critically ill or premature newborns.
“The One Hundred is pleased to provide the funds to purchase this important equipment. It’s important to us that children throughout the region have access to the very best medical care,” said Joan Pierce, president of The One Hundred.
The One Hundred supports The Children's Hospital at MUMC through advocacy, philanthropy, education, and volunteerism. In addition to fundraising, the group supports the Reach Out and Read program and provides volunteers to help in the inpatient and outpatient units at The Children’s Hospital. Since 1994, The One Hundred have donated more than $2 million for services and equipment at The Children’s Hospital.
The One Hundred’s primary fundraising event will be its annual Bear Gala on October 25 at the Plantation Club. The group hopes to raise $100,000 for The Children’s Hospital. The community is encouraged to attend or send a donation. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Phyllis Albertson at 912-598-7216.
