Scott Purinton, M.D., Board Certified in Gynecologic Oncology

(April 27, 2015) – Scott Purinton, M.D., Ph.D., FACOG, FACS, fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist and surgeon with Memorial Health’s ACI -- Surgical Associates, recently passed a subspecialty board exam making him board certified in gynecologic oncology.

Gynecologic oncology is one of the four subspecialties in the field of obstetrics/gynecology and is concerned with consultation and comprehensive management of patients with gynecologic cancers. This specialty requires knowledge of major cancer treatments, diagnosis, and complications of oncology.

Purinton is among approximately 600 gynecologists in the United States who are board certified in gynecologic oncology as well as obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He earned his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida and also holds a doctor of philosophy degree in physiology from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. He did his residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his fellowship training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in robotic surgery techniques and minimally invasive surgical procedures for complicated surgeries and gynecologic cancers.
