Memorial Health is pleased to announce Joshua Ferrell, MD, DABFM, FAAFP, has been named the new program director for its family medicine residency and family medicine-obstetrics fellowship.
“Dr. Ferrell is an experienced leader and teacher and we are excited to have him join us as the next program director for our family medicine residency,” said William Hannah, Designated Institutional Official and Executive Director of Medical Education at Memorial Health. “Our family medicine residency was founded in 1976 and is a vital part of our graduate medical education program. I am confident it will enjoy continued success under Dr. Ferrell’s leadership.”
Dr. Ferrell was most recently at Campbell University/Sampson Regional Medical Center (SRMC) in Clinton, NC, where he has served as associate program director, interim program director, adjunct assistant professor and director of family medicine – obstetrics and gynecology services since 2018. While at SRMC, Dr. Ferrell also held several leadership positions including medical staff president (2023), chief of family medicine (2021), chief of obstetrics and gynecology (2022) and vice chief of obstetrics and gynecology (2023 & 2024).
Prior to SRMC, Dr. Ferrell served as clinical assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Buffalo family medicine residency program in Olean, NY.
He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Ferrell completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. He also earned a Doctor of Medicine degree at Marshall University School of Medicine in 2009. He completed his family medicine residency at the Washington Health System in Washington, PA, in 2015 and a fellowship in family medicine – obstetrics at Providence Family Medicine Residency Clinic in Spokane, WA.
