Pediatric cancer support services
We know that having a child diagnosed with cancer can be difficult, not only for your child, but also your whole family. Our hospital offers support groups to help patients and their families throughout cancer treatment and recovery. Our support groups include:
- Pediatric Oncology Patient and Parent Support—POPPS offers education, emotional support and interaction for kids and teens with cancer and their families. Monthly activities may include recreational outings, psychoeducational topics for caregivers and support activities for caregivers. This group meets on the third Monday of every month.
- Relief Parent support group—This group is for parents who have a seriously ill child receiving inpatient or outpatient treatment. The group is facilitated by our social workers and a child life specialist is present to provide arts and crafts activities for the children. The purpose of these meetings is to serve as a break and provide a safe place for parents to interact and support each other.
