About Savannah

Founded in 1733 by General James Edward Oglethorpe, Savannah, Georgia, has a fascinating history and a promising future. Savannah has grown into a major international port city with a metro population of about 350,000. In addition to Memorial Health University Medical Center, other major employers in the area include Gulfstream Aerospace, Georgia Pacific, and Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield. Savannah has an international airport and one of the busiest seaports on the East Coast.

Savannah has also maintained much of its past in a nationally registered Historic District that includes 1,100 buildings of historic or architectural significance. Within this Historic District are structures dating back to the 1700s.

Temperatures in the area rarely dip below 35 degrees, allowing residents to enjoy a wide variety of year-round recreational activities and cultural amenities. Savannah is home to many museums and several colleges and universities. Beautiful beaches surround Savannah and offer year-round fishing and boating opportunities. Residents can also visit the nearby resort areas of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; St. Simons Island, Georgia; and Amelia Island, Florida.

For golf enthusiasts, Coastal Georgia offers a variety of pristine courses, including the renowned courses of Sea Island Resort. Savannah is also the home of the annual Legends of Golf PGA tour.
