First in Georgia to offer INTRABEAM® intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) for breast cancer.

INTRABEAM® delivers radiation directly into the tumor bed during breast-conserving surgery to kill cancer cells, shorten treatment time, and prevent recurrence. For some women, IORT eliminates the need for six weeks of radiation therapy after surgery. For others, it can shorten radiation treatment time by up to seven days.

Proven Worldwide

The INTRABEAM® delivery system was studied in an international randomized controlled clinical trial called TARGIT-A. The trial compared INTRABEAM® to standard external radiation treatment.

The TARGIT study found that 85 percent of women who received IORT did not need additional radiation treatment after the procedure. For the 15 percent who did need additional whole breast radiation therapy, the IORT served as a "boost" dose and cut five to seven days off of their post-surgery treatment.

Because IORT delivers radiation directly into the tumor bed, there is less damage to surrounding healthy tissue and less chance of a cancer recurrence.
