When Is Immediate Care Appropriate?

Not all injuries and illnesses are life-threatening. Knowing the difference can save you valuable time and money. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the moment and uncertain of whether a situation warrants a visit to the ER, or if the immediate care clinic might be more appropriate.

True medical emergencies are ones that, if not immediately treated, could be life-threatening. Loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, chest pain or other heart attack symptoms, stroke symptoms or seizure fall into this category. These situations require a trauma response and a visit to the ER.

Immediate care is for situations that you might see your regular doctor for, if you had time to make an appointment.

Urgent care at Memorial Health

Urgent care provides treatment for minor conditions and illnesses that need immediate attention, but are not cause for an emergency room visit. Urgent care facilities are open beyond the hours of a typical primary care physician and are able to provide care during the day, weeknights and on weekends.
